Places of Work
The places of occupation for cardiothoracic surgeons include Academic Medical Centers, Medical Centers, Community Hospitals, Private Group Practices, and Solo Medical Practices. At these places of work, cardiothoracic surgeons usually work under intense situations, because there might be excessive hemorrhaging from some of the organs. |
Job Outlook
The employment of surgeons is expected to grow by 24% from 2010 to 2020. This is partly due to the increase in healthcare industries. Another reason for this is the increase in the numbers of the elderly population. Although there might be factors that increase the employment of surgeons, there are also factors that might lead to the decrease in surgeons. The reason for some factors of decrease is that surgeons are being able to perform more surgeries in a smaller amount of time due to technological advancements. This leads to the decrease in the number of surgeons needed. The total median annual compensation of those in cardiothoracic surgery was $400,000 in May, 2011. |
